Jesus Christ is - The Wonderful One
To Him be the glory both now and forever.  Amen.

When Christ Jesus sets you free - you are free indeed!

'The fathers eat sour grapes,
and the children's teeth are set on edge'

Here are some comforting words for you.  You don't need to send a televangelist your money in order to get your life right.  I'm going to show you how to do it right from Holy Scripture.  Be advised though, there are ministries that come on TV which truly are doing the work of Christ by fulfilling the great commission and they need support in order to continue in their missions.  Some of these are on my links site.  However, I would advise you to be wary of someone just because he or she says "Lord, Lord."

A common theme among many televangelists is that of the generational curse.  I'm not too keen on most of these folks with perfect hair and makeup.....

Makeup? - As in all the congregations of the saints, women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says.  1 Corinthians 14:34 - regardless how you feel about it, the Holy Bible is clear that women are not to be preaching.  You don't even need to be discerning in this regard.  If in fact it is a woman preaching, she is not following Scripture.  I am not talking about women giving sound biblical advice and lessons over the radio.  I am talking about leading a congregation, or holding a church office.  An outline of the church structure is given in 1 Timothy for your edification.

A lot of these TV personalities pass out prayer napkins like they were holy good-luck charms and use the same key words again and again, e.g., "anointed" "powerful anointing" "prosperity" "binding this or that spirit" "loosening this or that" "seed offering" etc.   These words in and of themselves are not anything special, but these folks use them continuously just as a politician will use the same phrases again and again in order to condition your thoughts to match their agenda.  Such folks will tell you that you'll be prosperous and blessed by sending (to them) your best "seed offering."   If you'll only just "step out in faith with your most generous seed offering" they (the TV guy or gal) will say a prayer for you, and this will unbind your spirit of poverty, or your generational curse.   For your "contribution" they'll also send you an official, prayed over, prayer towel or some other nonsense.  Why,,,you'll be so blessed you wont be able to contain your giddiness and your pockets will overflow with cash!

It all comes down to money with these folks.  Don't believe it - no matter how sincere they seem.

If you've seen people like this you've probably heard them use something like the following as justification for the generational curse:

And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, "The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation."  Exodus 34:6, 7

Now send in your money and they'll get the curse cancelled for you.....

God let the Israelites know the importance of worshipping him alone, of teaching children His way, of avoiding sin, and living holy lives.  As punishment for disobeying God, he would punish the guilty and their children to the third and fourth generation.  This is repeated elsewhere in Holy Scripture.  Now you can see how important it is to get this curse lifted.  Get your $$$out and start filling out your envelope - but don't put the stamp on it just yet.  Read the following (still in the Old Testament):

The word of the LORD came to me:  "What do you people mean by quoting this proverb about the land of Israel:

" 'The fathers eat sour grapes,
and the children's teeth are set on edge'?

"As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign LORD, you will no longer quote this proverb in Israel.  For every living soul belongs to me, the father as well as the son-both alike belong to me. The soul who sins is the one who will die.

"Suppose there is a righteous man
who does what is just and right.
He does not eat at the mountain shrines
or look to the idols of the house of Israel.
He does not defile his neighbor's wife
or lie with a woman during her period.
He does not oppress anyone,

but returns what he took in pledge for a loan.
He does not commit robbery
but gives his food to the hungry
and provides clothing for the naked.
He does not lend at usury
or take excessive interest.

He withholds his hand from doing wrong
and judges fairly between man and man.
He follows my decrees
and faithfully keeps my laws.
That man is righteous;
he will surely live,
declares the Sovereign LORD.

"Suppose he has a violent son, who sheds blood or does any of these other things (though the father has done none of them):

"He eats at the mountain shrines.
He defiles his neighbor's wife.
He oppresses the poor and needy.
He commits robbery.
He does not return what he took in pledge.
He looks to the idols.
He does detestable things.
He lends at usury and takes excessive interest.

Will such a man live? He will not! Because he has done all these detestable things, he will surely be put to death and his blood will be on his own head.
"But suppose this son has a son who sees all the sins his father commits, and though he sees them, he does not do such things:

"He does not eat at the mountain shrines
or look to the idols of the house of Israel.
He does not defile his neighbor's wife.
He does not oppress anyone
or require a pledge for a loan.
He does not commit robbery
but gives his food to the hungry
and provides clothing for the naked.
He withholds his hand from sin

and takes no usury or excessive interest.
He keeps my laws and follows my decrees.

He will not die for his father's sin; he will surely live.  But his father will die for his own sin, because he practiced extortion, robbed his brother and did what was wrong among his people.
"Yet you ask, 'Why does the son not share the guilt of his father?' Since the son has done what is just and right and has been careful to keep all my decrees, he will surely live.  The soul who sins is the one who will die. The son will not share the guilt of the father, nor will the father share the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous man will be credited to him, and the wickedness of the wicked will be charged against him.
"But if a wicked man turns away from all the sins he has committed and keeps all my decrees and does what is just and right, he will surely live; he will not die. 22 None of the offenses he has committed will be remembered against him. Because of the righteous things he has done, he will live.  Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Sovereign LORD.  Rather, am I not pleased when they turn from their ways and live?
"But if a righteous man turns from his righteousness and commits sin and does the same detestable things the wicked man does, will he live? None of the righteous things he has done will be remembered. Because of the unfaithfulness he is guilty of and because of the sins he has committed, he will die.
"Yet you say, 'The way of the Lord is not just.' Hear, O house of Israel: Is my way unjust? Is it not your ways that are unjust?  If a righteous man turns from his righteousness and commits sin, he will die for it; because of the sin he has committed he will die.  But if a wicked man turns away from the wickedness he has committed and does what is just and right, he will save his life.  Because he considers all the offenses he has committed and turns away from them, he will surely live; he will not die.  Yet the house of Israel says, 'The way of the Lord is not just.' Are my ways unjust, O house of Israel? Is it not your ways that are unjust?
"Therefore, O house of Israel, I will judge you, each one according to his ways, declares the Sovereign LORD.  Repent! Turn away from all your offenses; then sin will not be your downfall.  Rid yourselves of all the offenses you have committed, and get a new heart and a new spirit. Why will you die, O house of Israel?  For I take no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Sovereign LORD.  Repent and live!  Ezekiel 18:1-31

Just for confirmation, let's go forward a few chapters:

Say to them, 'As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign LORD, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live.  Turn!  Turn from your evil ways!  Why will you die, O house of Israel?'  Ezekiel 33:11

Ezekiel 18 says:  "The fathers eat sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge." This was alluding to the understanding that generations were carrying the curses of their ancestors.  This led to an attitude that no matter what good they did they would still be punished for the sins of their ancestors.  With this belief, they adopted a fatalistic attitude and lost the will to live upright lives.  This ultimately led to spiritual lethargy and decay.  Because of this, these verses in Ezekiel promised that henceforth each man would be held accountable for his or her own actions without regard to the actions of previous generations.

So much for your generational curse today!  Rather, if you see a loser whose parents are  losers and whose grandparents were losers you can bet the family simply failed to instill Godly values into the next generation.  If you're a loser, don't blame your parents, the government, or your older sibling, rather, repent of your misdeeds, apply yourself to the study of Holy Scripture, and pull yourselves up by your bootstraps.  God gave you abilities and talents just like everyone else.  What you lack in one area will be made up for in another.  When you turn to the Living God through his Son our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ you will enter a new and blessed relationship.  I won't promise your journey will be an easy one, but I will echo God's promise of Jeremiah 29:12-14 - Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.  You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.  I will be found by you," declares the LORD, "and will bring you back from captivity.

As I've tried to implore you on most of this web site, you are important to the faithful and loving God.  You were created in His image for a purpose if only you will bow your head and invite him into your life.  He longs to have a relationship with you - why else would he step into time and space in the person of Jesus Christ and go to the cross?  However, you can't expect to continue in sin and be blessed by Him.  If you're having a romp outside of your marriage, if you drink too much and lose control, if money is more important to you than He is - these things separate you from him.  Your life of sin needs to be dealt with first.  Hear the admonition from 1 Corinthians 6 9-11:  Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.  And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.  The King James version translates the sexually immoral as "fornicators" which is having relationships outside of the bonds of marriage.  The good news after hearing the bad is that those to whom the letter was addressed had been washed and sanctified through repentance and the acceptance of Christ as their Lord - even though they once lived these ways.  Again, we see the same terminology here:  Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city.  Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.  Revelation 22:14, 15.  Above Jesus lists these types of perpetrators and the result of their actions.  However, also mentioned are those who have washed their robes.  This terminology is explained as those who have accepted Christ as the Lord of their lives.  They have traded their garments of unrighteousness for the shining, clean linen of Christ.   These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore,

"they are before the throne of God
       and serve him day and night in his temple;
and he who sits on the throne will spread his tent over them.

I have to tell you that I cannot imagine anyone trading an eternity of ever increasing joy for a continued life of sin and eternal damnation once they've heard the Good News!  Wake up, repent, and turn to Christ.  As he so beautifully put it:  Behold, I am coming soon!  My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done. Rev 22:12.

I'd love to hear from you:
